Choose Thankfulness

Choose Thankfulness

Give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 5:20

I am literally sitting in a corner, all boxed in, on a writing deadline. There are tarps covering the furniture around me, except for the small sofa I am sitting on. Roofers are hammering away on our twenty-year-old roof that came with a thirty-five-year warranty that is now null and void—the company is no longer in business!

All the estimates that we received from other roofing companies confirmed that, yes, we needed a new roof. Apparently it was not put on correctly the first time. Who knew that important information but God and the original roofers? I am writing while waiting for the drywall installers to arrive and repair the damage inside our home caused by the leaky roof.

I’m having trouble finding a quiet place where I can think. Mark’s day began when his sleep was interrupted by the sounds of the workmen, and he walked in here and found me hidden behind all the tarps. There was so much noise we both burst out laughing to keep from crying.

Lord, what can I learn in all this mess about You? About me? About my response? This is not a catastrophe but an inconvenience in a world where I take conveniences for granted!

What is a God’s girl supposed to do in such a physical mess? His answer? Choose thankfulness!

Thank You, Lord, that we have a home to fix!

Thank You, Lord, that You see me in the corner, and You understand and care about the details in my life. You aren’t distant. You’re right here with me!

Thank You, Lord, that You are constructing me to look more like Christ. My life can be in a mess, but in Your grace and mercy, You are the only One who makes good out of ugly (Romans 8:28).

And thank You, Lord, that You always make good on Your eternal lifetime warranty in Jesus Christ!

Let’s choose thankfulness! Jot down your own thanksgiving list today!
