Abba, Daddy
Abba, Daddy
Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
Romans 8:15-16
My daddy has been in heaven many years now, but I still miss him. Some of my best memories with Daddy were in his car or truck. Getting the chance to sit in the front seat was exciting because that was where he stored the Lifesavers, breath mints, and chewing gum! If it was just the two of us together, we were most often going fishing, to the pond to feed the ducks, or to the grocery store for Mama.
I regularly drive my daddy’s 1986 Ford F-150 pickup truck around town. It was once a man’s big blue truck until I surprised my husband, Mark, and painted it sweet candy pink with a back bumper inscribed, “Only a real man can drive his wife’s pink truck!”
The truth is that I still have a father—a heavenly Father—in the truck with me, and not just in the truck, but everywhere I go. Because of Christ’s death on the cross, I can call God my Abba Father, which is an affectionate name for Him, like calling Him “Daddy.” It is exciting to think about my heavenly Father giving me the rights and privileges of a loved daughter. This perfect God and heavenly Father can do no wrong. It’s hard for me not to feel overwhelmed by my Creator not only noticing me but cherishing me as His child, His very loved daughter.
I realize this mention of fathers may bring sadness for you if you did not have a good relationship with your earthly father. God takes your feelings seriously and grieves that loss with you. But most of all, He wants you to be encouraged to know that if you are in Christ, you have a perfect Father, too, all your own. He promises to protect and provide for you and never to leave you. You are truly a son or a daughter, too, with a King for a daddy.
Call on your Abba Daddy today for every single heartache, confusion, and concern. He will never leave your side, and the inheritance you will receive from Him is infinitely greater than a pink ’86 pickup!
