The Greatest Sin Shredder

Bible Blast: Read Psalm 103:8-14

His unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.

Psalm 103:11-13

A pastor called all the children in the church to come up and sit on the floor in the front of the church for a special children’s message. He talked to them about sin and had them write down their sins on a piece of paper. Then he brought out a square little machine and plugged it in. Most of the children had no idea what it was. The pastor took a piece of paper and fed it into the machine. The children watched as the paper was turned into tiny strips. That’s right. The little machine was a paper shredder.

The pastor told the children that God forgives us for sinning when we ask him to. The kids were wide-eyed as he explained that when God forgives something, he doesn’t even remember it anymore. It’s like he has a great big, God-sized paper shredder in heaven. The children lined up to put their papers through the shredder, a symbol of God’s totally forgiving them and not remembering their sin.

Did you know that’s true? God, who knows everything, really doesn’t remember your sin after he’s forgiven you. Read today’s focus verses again. How far exactly is the east from the west? Where do east and west begin and end? East and west go on and on, and they can’t be measured! God throws our sins so far from us that we can’t even measure the distance!

Don’t you wish you had the ability totally to forget bad things? I know I have some things I would like never again to remember! All we have to do is confess our sins to him. Look at 1 John 1:8-9: “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”

Girl Gab: Mom and daughter, do you have something you’ve done that you still feel really bad about? If you haven’t confessed it to God, then take time to do it now. Now write it on a piece of paper and run it through a paper shredder. If you don’t have one, a nice pair of scissors will do the job. As you watch your sins “disappear,” say a prayer thanking God for not remembering them anymore.
