Let The Hunt Begin!
Let the Hunt Begin!
Bible Blast: Read Proverbs 2:1-8
Tune your ears to . . . Wisdom; . . . Searching for it like a prospector panning for gold, like an adventurer on a treasure hunt. Believe me, before you know it . . . you’ll have come upon the Knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1, 4-5 (THE MESSAGE)
A few weeks after my boyfriend proposed to me and gave me a beautiful diamond ring, I lost it. As I was driving to work, I looked down to admire the ring on my left hand and realized that it was gone. I was frantic! I didn’t care if I was late to work. I turned my car around and headed straight for my tiny apartment. Inside, I ripped through piles of laundry, tugged all the sheets and blankets off my bed, stuck my hand down pipe drains, and turned over carpets. The place looked like a tornado had come through it, and I still hadn’t found that ring! Then I remembered the chocolate cream pie! I’d just made it. I ran to the fridge, pulled it out, and wasted no time in digging through it. Nothing. Suddenly I had an amazing, revolutionary idea: maybe it was in my jewelry box! And it was.
God wants us to look for his truth in the same way that I looked for that ring, with wild passion to find it. But we aren’t going to find it in a chocolate cream pie. We also aren’t going to find wisdom in the advice of friends, television shows with good morals, fiction books written by Christian authors, or a great Christian rock download. Those are all decent places where we might find some truth, but there’s a proper place where you can always, 100 percent guaranteed, find truth. It’s right where it belongs: in the Bible.
Proverbs 2 describes looking for the truth in the Bible like being on a treasure hunt. When I read that, I felt really excited. Treasure hunts are hard work, but they are fun. Digging into God’s Word should be fun. I hope you’re having fun digging into God’s Word with me this year, and I hope you’ll keep it up your whole life long.
Think about it: Your whole life can be one fantastic treasure hunt!
Girl Gab: Time for a treasure hunt. Mom, hide your Bibles and this book somewhere, and play a nice game of hot and cold. Then, change roles. Daughter, you get to hide the stuff. Time each other. The faster “treasure hunter” gets a foot rub (to be followed by prayer, of course).
