That’s Quite A Name

That’s Quite a Name

Bible Blast: Read Isaiah 9:6-7

He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine Hulk And The Flash Combined.

That’s the new name of George Garratt from England, who changed his name when he was nineteen. He had it legally changed to that thirteen-word wonder because he wanted to be unique, but people just call him Captain or Captain Fantastic.

In Isaiah 9 we see that Jesus’ name is actually a lot longer than that. The book of Isaiah was written hundreds of years before Jesus would be born. The verses about his birth and his name were a prophecy. A prophecy is when God gives a message about something that is going to happen even before anyone knows anything about it. God was saying, “I’m going to send my Son, and this is what his name will be:

Wonderful Counselor,

Mighty God,

Everlasting Father,

Prince of Peace.”

Those are some awesome names. We know that he really lives up to every single one of those names.

He counsels us.

His might and strength fight for us.

His “daddy’s heart” for us never goes away.

His peace is available to us 24/7.

Knowing God’s names really comes in handy during times of prayer and worship. When you see one of God’s names in the Bible, stop for a moment and ask God what that name means. His names aren’t empty and boastful. They have real meaning.

Girl Gab: Of the names of Jesus we talked about in the devo, which one means the most to you right now? Use that name in a prayer to him today.
