Bible Blast: Read Proverbs 31:28-31

A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout. Proverbs 11:22

Picture a beautiful queen who’s getting ready for the royal ball. Her servants help the majestic lady put on her hand-stitched, 100 percent silk gown. It has crystals delicately placed all over the fabric, making the gown appear to twinkle under the candlelight. Her slender feet slide into shoes that look more like jewelry than something you should walk around in. Her personal hairstylist pins her hair up into an elegant sculpture of curls and twists. The queen’s neck is covered with a necklace holding hundreds of different colored gemstones. After the makeup artist has made her skin look like a perfectly painted art canvas, the queen is ready to enter the ball.

She stands at the top of the grand staircase with her handsome king at her side. The people gasp at her beauty and bow as the royal couple slowly walks down to the ballroom floor. As they begin the first waltz with everyone watching, the queen reaches up with her bejeweled hand and . . . picks her nose. Then she gets an itch on top of her knee. So she hoists up her gorgeous gown and crazily scratches like a dog with fleas. And finally, shocking everyone in the room, she grabs a can of soda, drinks it as fast as she can, and lets out a huge burp that echoes through the palace walls.

That was a detailed description of today’s focus verse. The queen was a beautiful woman who didn’t have any discretion or good judgment. Can you see how that’s like a gold ring in a pig’s nose? You can wash a pig, put piggy perfume on it, put a big bow around its neck and a shiny pure gold ring through its nose, and one thing won’t change. It’s still a pig. If it were near a mud puddle, it would roll in it with great joy in spite of its pretty jewelry.

It doesn’t matter how good you look on the outside; if you don’t make good choices to live as one of God’s girls, how you look on the outside is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout. True beauty comes from becoming more like Jesus. Keep spending time with him. Let his love be your jewelry.
