Fresh Fruit: Faithfulness

Bible Blast: Read Romans 1:20-22

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, FAITHFULNESS, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Galatians 5:22-23

I was walking through New York City with a group of students from Grace Prep, the Christian high school my husband started. We were there simply to pray with people. I was asking God who I should pray with when I saw a teenaged boy and his girlfriend who looked kind of, well, unhappy.

“Hi, guys,” I said. “My name is Dannah. Do you guys have anything you need prayer for? I’d love to pray for you.”

“I don’t believe in God,” said the guy. “Why do you? You can’t see him. You have no evidence that he exists.”

I wasn’t prepared for that. Most people in the New York subway are really hungry for prayer when we approach them. They love it. They don’t get angry like this guy did. I didn’t know what to say, so I prayed quietly for help. Almost without thinking, I said, “Do you believe the wind is real?”

“Of course,” he said. When I asked why, he said, “Because you can see it.”

“No, you can’t,” I said. “You can’t see the wind. It is invisible. But you can see what it touches. The trees bend, and flowers dance when the wind touches them. I can see God because I see the lives he touches. I know he’s real.”

The boy’s girlfriend asked me if I would pray for them.

My friend’s dad says, “Faith is looking at the invisible and seeing something.” It takes faith to trust God and serve him. Believing in God is kind of like believing in the wind. Even though you can’t see the actual wind, you know it’s there and you believe wind exists.

Being faithful can mean being filled with faith. How have you seen God in other people’s lives—and in your own? Remembering what God has done can help you be filled with faith.
