Bible Blast: Read Psalm 63:2-4

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

When I was in first grade, I won a national poetry contest. I won first place out of more than a thousand entries. Here’s the poem that still hangs on my mom’s wall:

The Woodpecker makes his nest in a tree

He pecks all day no matter what we say,

So I’d better go away

Before he pecks me,

Little tree!

Goodness gracious! How did that win?

The book of Psalms is a whole book of songs and poems inspired by God. What a gift to have 150 to choose from when I’m looking for words to describe how I feel! Every now and then, I’ll read a psalm out loud to God as if I wrote it myself because it’s exactly what I feel like telling him in that moment. Have you ever tried to write your own psalm? You can! Just write down how you feel about God and his love for you. You can make it rhyme or not. It’s totally up to you. If you play an instrument you could even set it to music.

Here’s a psalm that Janet wrote:

Lord, you are faithful.

I will never have a reason to say you’re not.

Our intimacy is special and it will never end.

Your love jumps toward me in leaps energized by joy

And excitement and a longing desire to be my Friend.

No matter where you lead me, Lord,

I’ll just close my eyes, stretch my hands out,

And let you guide me on my knees.

For I know without you I can do nothing.

But with you I truly have everything

My heart could ever dream of and more.

Girl Gab: Why not try creating a psalm together? Write a mother/daughter psalm of praise for your relationship. Your finished product doesn’t have to be perfect. Just express your gratitude to God for giving you each other.
