Bible Blast: Read Romans 8:28-30
God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:29
Jeannie never had any brothers or sisters, but, boy, did she want them! She prayed for siblings and begged her parents to have more kids, but she remained an only child. Jeannie envied her cousins because there were four kids in their family. She totally wanted to be part of a bigger family.
When she got older she realized what a blessing it was to be an only child because of the attention and time her parents were able to give her. As an adult, Jeannie has superclose BFFs that love Jesus. They became the sisters she never had!
Shelly had the opposite “problem” that Jeannie had. She was the youngest of five kids. That’s a big family! Sometimes she would sit at the dinner table and listen to everyone talking over each other and wish that she were an only child. It wasn’t that she didn’t love her siblings. She just thought it would be cool to have her parents to herself sometimes.
As Shelly grew older, she realized how much she loved the noisy, crazy holidays with people all over the house, and she saw the blessing that a big family can be. And, just like Jeannie, Shelly has some fabulous friends who love Jesus and help her stay close to him.
No matter what type of family you come from, one thing’s for sure—God wants you to have people in your life who will be like sisters to you, even if you don’t have the same mom and dad. In today’s Bible Blast, you read that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and that God is our heavenly Father. That means if you meet a chica who’s in love with Jesus, she’s your sister! And if you come across a boy who’s totally into the Lord, he’s your brother! How cool is that?
Whether you come from a big family or a little family, God wants you to be connected to other sisters in Christ. He doesn’t want you to live your life all by yourself, so get out there and start lovin’ your sisters!
Girl Gab: Have you ever wished you had more or fewer siblings? Did your mom ever wish that when she was your age? Have fun imagining what life would be like if you suddenly had zero siblings or twenty siblings. Make a list of your BFFs. Are they also your sisters in Christ?
