Bible Blast: Read James 4:13-16

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.

James 4:14

George Müller lived in England in the 1800s. He went all over the place telling people about Jesus Christ, and he started a bunch of orphanages.

Once George had an appointment in Quebec. Back then, people traveled mainly by boat and not by airplane. On the way to Quebec, the ship encountered a very thick fog. The captain of the boat had no choice but to sit and wait until the fog lifted. He waited and waited and waited.

It was on a Wednesday that George Müller tapped the captain on the shoulder and said, “Captain, I have come to tell you that I must be in Quebec on Saturday afternoon.” The captain told him it would be impossible because of the fog.

George said, “Let’s go downstairs and pray.”

The captain said, “Don’t you see how heavy this fog is?”

George looked at him and said, “My eye is not on the density of the fog, but on the living God, who controls every circumstance of my life.”

The captain reluctantly followed him downstairs, thinking he was crazy. George prayed a super-simple prayer asking God to lift the fog within five minutes so that he could get to Quebec on time. You can just imagine how foolish the captain thought George was being. In fact, George sensed the captain’s lack of faith and told him that he himself didn’t need to pray since God had already answered. He then told the captain to open the door and look outside because the fog was gone. Sure enough, the fog had completely lifted! George Müller was in Quebec that Saturday, just as he needed to be.

Following Christ means you see things differently from the way other people do. You don’t just see what’s in front of you, but you focus more on the eternal things of God. What obstacles are you facing right now? Ask God to give you eyes to see his power and love in that situation and begin to pray in faith for him to move them.
