Cow Sense

There once was a cow whose name was Bessie who was caught up in the beauty of the day. She was smelling flowers, chewing grass, and gazing up at the cotton-ball clouds—and then she fell in a well.

Luckily the well was dry, so she didn’t fall into water, but she was still freaked out since there was no way out. Bessie did what any sensible cow would do and started to moo loudly for Farmer Skip.

“Mmmoooooooooo! MmmoooooooOOOOO!”

Farmer Skip came running from the barn and saw Bessie’s predicament. Suddenly he got an idea, and he called his neighbors to grab their shovels and come over. When everybody got there, Farmer Skip said, “Bessie has fallen into this old dry well. I’ve been meaning to fill it in with this here pile of dirt, so why don’t you help me do it now?”

The neighbors looked confused. Why would Farmer Skip want to fill up the well before he got Bessie out? Because the neighbors didn’t talk much, they just did what he told them.

Bessie didn’t respond well when she started to feel piles of dirt hitting her back. “I thought Farmer Skip was my pal! He raised me from a calf!” She began to cry. Then she sneezed a really big cow sneeze. “Ah-ah-aaa-CHAMOOOOOO!” The sneeze caused her whole body to jerk, which shook the dirt off her back and onto the ground. Then Bessie stepped up onto that pile of dirt. Aha! she thought.

Every time a pile of dirt collected on the floor, Bessie stepped up onto it. Eventually, the dirt that everyone was shoveling into the well started to fill it up as Bessie slowly climbed the dirt to the top of the well.

Sometimes God does things we don’t understand, but we have to trust that he’s always doing what is best. He has a reason for everything he does, just like Farmer Skip did. Trust God with your whole life, and you’ll experience a very satisfying life.
