Can You “bee” Too Sweet?
Can You “Bee” Too Sweet?
Bible Blast: Read Proverbs 25:14-17
Do you like honey? Don’t eat too much, or it will make you sick!
Proverbs 25:16
Honey is such a tasty, gooey mess of goodness! I sometimes can’t believe how it’s made. Basically the honeybee sucks sweet liquid called “nectar” out of flowers and stores it in his “honey stomach.” Stuff mixes with the nectar turning it into honey. The bee goes to the hive, finds a hole in the honeycomb that isn’t full, and spits the honey into that hole. Yes. Honey is, well, kind of like bee vomit.
The bees fill the “cells” of the honeycomb and cap them off with a seal of beeswax. They use the honey for food. No wonder they get so mad when you try to take their honey: They want to eat it too!
I love it when I come across a verse like Proverbs 25:16 that’s so practical. It makes sense, right? If you eat too much honey, you’ll get sick. If you eat too much of anything, you risk getting sick. Have you ever learned that by experience? I have! Well, not with honey. But once at a turkey dinner, I ate so many noodles that I could not stand up after I finished eating. I was so sick!
When you’re really superhungry and the first thing you see is a package of cookies or a bag of chips, don’t you just want to sit down and eat the whole thing? There’s a good chance you won’t feel very well if you do. And not only that, but you will also have filled up with junk food and won’t have room for food that will actually be good for your body. That’s the point of today’s Bible verse; it’s a reminder to eat well.
One good word to remember when you’re filling your plate at mealtime is this: color. If your plate is filled with pale, white, or brownish foods, you probably have too much of one kind of food. The more colorful a food is, the healthier it is. So foods like broccoli, carrots, and apples are full of more vitamins than things like rice, white pasta, and potatoes.
The next time you eat, add some color to your plate! Make it an artistic masterpiece of red, green, and yellow, with a dash of white!
Girl Gab: If you have a hard time eating colorful food, tell your mom which veggies and fruits you like the most. Also, talk about tastier options, like dipping vegetables in ranch dressing or drizzling honey over fruit. God will help you find creative ways to enjoy healthy foods. Go ahead and ask him!
