Bible Blast: Read Luke 2:16-20
Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. Luke 2:19
We’ve learned a lot about Mary over the last week, haven’t we? Today’s focus verse gives us another clue into the kind of girl Mary was.
The shepherds were totally pumped up about what had happened. They told everyone they met about the angels’ visit and their discovery of the baby Jesus. The people were amazed by their story. It probably became the talk of the town. It may have been tempting for Mary to join in all the talk and to let people know who she was. She could have gone around Bethlehem saying, “I’m Mary! I just gave birth to God’s Son! My baby boy is the Savior of the world!” But instead she kept everything in her heart.
What Mary had experienced was more intimate and miraculous than you and I could ever imagine. God had chosen her, nobody very grand or important, to be the one to bring his Son into the world. There is no doubt Mary had a lot to think about. I like to think that, as she held that precious infant, she was having conversations with God in her heart about him. She probably had a lot of thoughts that she needed God’s help with, and it sounds like he did help her in the quiet place of her heart.
Now that Christmas Day is over, take time to talk with God in your heart about Jesus and about the holiday you have just experienced. Spend some quiet time with him today.
