Work
Work
What if my work has nothing to do with anything “Christian” —how can God be glorified in my work?
God’s Response
Having finished his task, God rested from all his work. . . . The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and care for it. Genesis 2:2, 15
We worked hard day and night so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 2 Thessalonians 3:8
Work is anchored in God’s very character. Part of being made in God’s image is sharing in the industrious and creative aspects of his nature. Gardening was the very first job a human had. Christians are needed in all kinds of vocations. Whatever your job, believe that God has placed you there for a reason, and then do your work well as a service to God and as a way to allow others to see his love in action through you.
God’s Promise
This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we commanded you before. As a result, people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others to meet your financial needs. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
