How do my values affect my choices?

God’s Response

“Come and sleep with me,” she demanded. But Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household. . . . How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.” Genesis 39:7-9

Do for others what you would like them to do for you. This is a summary of all that is taught in the law. Matthew 7:12

The LORD has already told you what is good, and this is what he requires: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

It’s easy to see what you really value by the choices you make. Just consider how you spend your money and your time, what you think most about, and what arouses the passions of your heart. Then ask yourself this question: How do I view acts that the Bible calls sin, such as white lies or ignoring wrongdoing, gossip, flattery, profanity, cheating? If you don’t see these as sin, you must face the fact that your values differ from the Bible’s, and your choices will not be pleasing to God.
