The Government Will Rest On His Shoulders

The Government Will Rest on His Shoulders

Can I rest on Jesus’ shoulders?

God’s Response

A child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. Isaiah 9:6

Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. . . . The LORD laid on him the sins of us all. Isaiah 53:4, 6

At Christmas, when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we don’t usually think about the hard part of the story. But the little baby Jesus grew into a man who shouldered the sins of the world. His shoulders were beaten and whipped bloody, they bore a cross up a hill, and then they hung on that cross until his death cleared away our guilt for sin. Just as Jesus bore our sins on his shoulders, he now carries our burdens. In fact, our future for eternity rests on them. Jesus invites you now to rest on him. Let him carry you. He’s strong enough to bear any troubles you have —after all, he has carried the weight of the world.

God’s Promise

I will be your God throughout your lifetime —until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. Isaiah 46:4
