Temptation
Temptation
Is it a sin to be tempted?
God’s Response
The Devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, change these stones into loaves of bread.”But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God.’ ” Matthew 4:3-4
[Jesus] faced all of the same temptations we do, yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15
It is not a sin to be tempted —Jesus was tempted and he remained sinless. The fact that he faced temptation and never gave in to it means that he is able to understand and help you when you are tempted. Temptation is unavoidable, so when you are tempted, do what Jesus did —be ready to respond with the truth of Scripture. Knowing what is right according to God will help you resist sin.
God’s Promise
Since he himself has gone through suffering and temptation, he is able to help us when we are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18
