What is love?

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

A healthy definition of love is crucial to understanding the central message of the Bible. According to the Bible, love is not about sexuality, nor is it primarily a feeling. The Bible teaches that love is a commitment, a consistent and determined decision to think of others first, to put their needs above your own, and to serve them first. God loves us in that way, and gives us the ability to love others.
