My home is nothing special, and I’m not a great cook. How can I be hospitable?

God’s Response

You are doing a good work for God when you take care of the traveling teachers who are passing through. 3 John 1:5

Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. . . . “There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it —and I won’t take it away from her.” Luke 10:39, 42

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you must have a big house or extraordinary culinary skills in order to be hospitable. Instead of making your home and food your focus, make your guests the focus. The most important part of hospitality is ministering to the needs of others and sharing the Lord’s blessings with them. The surroundings then become insignificant.

God’s Promise

I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. . . . And the King will tell them, “I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” Matthew 25:35, 40
