Goodness
Goodness
How can I “be good”?
God’s Response
She must be well respected by everyone because of the good she has done. . . . Has she been kind to strangers? . . . Has she helped those who are in trouble? 1 Timothy 5:10
The Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17
Goodness is not merely being talented at something, as in “she is good at painting.” Goodness is a composite of many qualities, such as being kind, helpful, loving, pleasant, generous, and gentle. These qualities exhibit our likeness to God. When Christ takes control of our hearts, we will begin doing good deeds that, when we have practiced them over a lifetime, will be defined as goodness.
God’s Promise
You are a chosen people. You are a kingdom of priests, God’s holy nation, his very own possession. This is so you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
