God’s Gentleness

God’s Gentleness

How is God gentle?

God’s Response

After the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. . . . And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:12-13

Correct me, LORD, but please be gentle. Do not correct me in anger, for I would die. Jeremiah 10:24

The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he understands how weak we are; he knows we are only dust. Psalm 103:13-14

God does not always operate on a spectacular scale. In fact, the spectacular does not always get our attention. Jesus’ gentle words often made a greater impact upon people than his dramatic miracles. Sometimes your quiet and gentle words are just what a friend needs as an encouragement or a challenge. It is not always the loudest voice that is heard. The gentle quiet may be needed in order to hear what is really important. The next time you need to get a message across to someone, a gentle response in the midst of an uproar may be just what a person needs to hear.

God’s Promise

You have given me the shield of your salvation. Your right hand supports me; your gentleness has made me great. Psalm 18:35
