Empathy

Empathy

How can I show sensitivity to those who appear to be on the outside looking in?

God’s Response

Do not oppress foreigners in any way. Remember, you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt. Exodus 22:21

I want you to share your food with the hungry and to welcome poor wanderers into your homes. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. Isaiah 58:7

Think about a time when you were an outsider. How did you feel? What would have helped you? When you can empathize with others, you will know how to help them feel welcome. Look around today and notice someone who looks lonely. Greet them with a cheerful smile. Who knows? You may be greeting a wonderful new friend!

God’s Challenge

This is what the LORD Almighty says: Judge fairly and honestly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and poor people. And do not make evil plans to harm each other. Zechariah 7:9-10
