Discernment

Discernment

Where should I turn for direction when I’m not sure which path to take?

God’s Response

If you need wisdom —if you want to know what God wants you to do —ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6

Give discernment to me, your servant; then I will understand your decrees. Psalm 119:125

Discernment is the ability to interpret events and know what is of God and what takes us away from God. It helps us to decide what must be done, and to understand people’s true motives. Discernment separates right from wrong, good from bad, helpful from harmful. The best way for you to discern whether something is from God is to know what God has called you to. Anything that does not take you in that direction is the wrong way for you, even if it is something that is okay in itself.

God’s Promise

If you live a life guided by wisdom, you won’t limp or stumble as you run. Proverbs 4:12
