Backsliding

Backsliding

Why do we forget to stay close to God?

God’s Response

If you think you are standing strong, be careful, for you, too, may fall into the same sin. 1 Corinthians 10:12

Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the LORD your God and disobey his commands. . . . When you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in . . . be careful. Do not become proud at that time and forget the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 8:11-12, 14

It’s easy to feel disappointment after fulfilling a major commitment. After victory we are most vulnerable. Pride can make us feel overconfident, but when there is no longer a big goal before us, our emotions can take a nosedive. In no time, we can go from elation to discouragement. Here are a few ways to stay close to God: (1) Declare your allegiance to him out loud every day. (2) Choose daily to live the way God wants you to. (3) Obey his Word faithfully and deliberately. (4) Find a place to serve him again right away, and do so with energy and enthusiasm. (5) Learn to rest in the Lord during the down times. If you seek God deliberately each day, it will be hard to forget him.

God’s Promise

You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Isaiah 55:12
