What You Desire

What You Desire

Is it okay to have desires in my life?

God’s Response

That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” 1 Kings 3:5

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12

I desire you more than anything on earth. Psalm 73:25

May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed. Psalm 20:4

All of us are created with a capacity for desire. Desires can be healthy or unhealthy, godly or ungodly, good or bad, casual or intense. Desire is good and healthy if: (1) you don’t seek something sinful; (2) it does not become more important than your desire to love and please God; (3) it helps you develop focus and enthusiasm; and (4) it blesses others and honors God. The Bible says that our greatest desire should be to love, follow, please, and obey the Lord. Develop that desire. The more you know him, the more you will desire him.
