Weird People

What if the Christians I know are really weird? Do I have to hang out with them?

God’s Response

God said to Noah, . . . “Build a large boat. . . . I am about to cover the earth with a flood.” Genesis 6:13-14, 17

“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her. . . . “You will conceive and give birth to a son.” . . .Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you.” Luke 1:30-31, 34-35

A man built a boat in the desert. A woman said that she was pregnant—not from a man, but from the Holy Spirit. That’s pretty weird, yet the Bible calls Noah and Mary two of God’s favorite people. Many people who encountered Jesus considered him odd. All of us are a little weird, when you think about it. If you follow Jesus, some people will think you are weird, and you will be around people who others think are weird. Would you hang out with someone even if he or she was weird? Jesus did that—he did what was right without worrying about how it looked. When you look beyond appearances and into a person’s heart, you will see someone that God values and loves. If God finds great value there, so will you—if you look.
