The Greatest Encouragement

The Greatest Encouragement

How does God encourage me?

God’s Response

No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you. . . . I will not fail you or abandon you. Joshua 1:5

As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength. Psalm 138:3

“He may have a great army, but they are merely men. We have the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles for us!” Hezekiah’s words greatly encouraged the people. 2 Chronicles 32:8

Joshua’s strength and resolve might have weakened over the daunting task of leading all those people into a land of giants. So God prepared him—and the rest of the people—with specific words of encouragement. At times, we long for someone to come beside us, lift us up, and encourage us. How much better if that someone is God! Like Joshua, we don’t find courage by looking within or by looking around at the circumstances, but by looking to our sovereign Lord. God encourages us by promising to fight our battles for us.

This Is Promising

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father . . . comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
