What is God’s power like?

God’s Response

He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power. Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:6-7

Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake. . . . The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly all was calm.The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” Matthew 8:23-27

Imagine the earth’s strongest earthquake, tallest tsunami, wildest volcano, and most devastating hurricane—all in one place. This cannot even begin to compare to God’s power, because he is the creator of all these phenomena, and what is created is never more powerful than the creator. This same God, who instantly calmed the storm over Galilee, has the power to calm the storms in your heart, dry up your flood of fear, quench the fires of lust, and control the whirlwind of your life. Do you believe in God’s power, or will you insist on taking matters into your own hands?
