How can I avoid comparing myself with others?
God’s Response
Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved. . . . Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?”Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.” John 21:20-22
In this profound, loving rebuke, Je0sus told the impulsive Peter that he was not to be concerned about God’s plans for anyone except himself. God had plans for Peter, and he had plans for John (“the disciple Jesus loved”); he has plans for your Christian friends, and he has plans for you. It is foolish to try to determine whether your hand or your foot is more important—you need both. God created you and every other believer to play a certain role in his Kingdom. Only when you work together will God’s Kingdom grow and flourish! Constantly comparing yourself to someone else might cause you to miss what God has for you.
