Why does cheating, on a large or small scale, matter to God?

God’s Response

All who cheat with dishonest weights and measures are detestable to the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 25:16

The LORD detests double standards; he is not pleased by dishonest scales. Proverbs 20:23

The LORD demands accurate scales and balances; he sets the standards for fairness. Proverbs 16:11

If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. Luke 16:10

People who want God’s blessing must abide by God’s standards of fairness and justice. God is so concerned about cheating that he even made laws about the scales for weighing grain in the marketplace. Cheating matters greatly to God because it reveals a severe character flaw. If you have developed the habit of cheating, it will be very difficult to stop when bigger challenges with bigger stakes come your way. If you can’t be trusted to be honest in a small matter, you can’t be trusted to be honest in a big matter.
