Getting the Real Scoop

Can I evaluate advice so I know if it’s good or not?

God’s Response

Jeroboam thought to himself, “Unless I am careful, the kingdom will return to the dynasty of David. When these people go to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices at the Temple of the LORD, they will again give their allegiance to King Rehoboam of Judah.” . . .So on the advice of his counselors, the king made two gold calves. He said to the people, “It is too much trouble for you to worship in Jerusalem. Look, Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of Egypt!” 1 Kings 12:26-28

You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind. . . . You must not bow down to them or worship them. Exodus 20:4-5

It seemed like a good plan to Jeroboam. Problem was, making an idol was clearly against the commands in God’s Word. You’ve got to read the Bible if you want to know what it says. It contains the very words of God, who wrote them to show you how to experience life in its fullness, and what happens when you ignore or disobey the basic laws of the universe. He created the universe, so he should know how it works! If the advice you’re given contradicts the Bible, then it is bad advice. Read the Bible because what it says will literally save your life.

This Is Promising

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked. Psalm 1:1
