When does drinking become wrong?

God’s Response

You have had enough . . . of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. 1 Peter 4:3

Who has anguish? Who has sorrow? Who is always fighting? Who is always complaining? Who has unnecessary bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? It is the one who spends long hours in the taverns, trying out new drinks. Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper. Proverbs 23:29-32

Alcoholic beverages consumed wisely are not automatically bad. In fact, the Bible calls a good glass of wine a gift from God for our enjoyment (Psalm 104:15, John 2:1-10). But God prohibits excessive drinking. Although the Bible gives adults of legal age the freedom to drink in moderation, if your drinking causes problems for another Christian’s conscience or becomes a problem for you, God asks you to abstain (Romans 14:14-16). Drinking is wrong when it leads to drunkenness, controls your actions, or causes you to disobey God. Until you are of legal age, it’s always wrong. If you can’t drink without dishonoring God, then you must not drink at all.

This Is Promising

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18
