Can I Trust You?

How can my friends know they can trust me?

God’s Response

“If I die, treat my family with this faithful love, even when the LORD destroys all your enemies from the face of the earth.” So Jonathan made a solemn pact with David. 1 Samuel 20:14-16

His name was Mephibosheth; he was Jonathan’s son and Saul’s grandson. When he came to David, he bowed low to the ground in deep respect. David said, “Greetings, Mephibosheth.”Mephibosheth replied, “I am your servant.”“Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan.” 2 Samuel 9:6-7

Your friends will know they can trust you when you prove to be trustworthy. It’s as simple as that. When a man became king in ancient days, it was common to kill off the entire family of the preceding king, but David promised he wouldn’t do that. Even though Mephibosheth was the grandson of the previous king—and thus a potential threat—David cared for him like a son. When you keep your promises, people learn that they can trust you and you build a reputation for trustworthiness.
