Can I be sure that I belong to God?

God’s Response

We can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 1 John 2:3-5

Now we can tell who are children of God. . . . Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God. 1 John 3:10

What you do shows everyone what you really care about. Obeying God is proof that you love him and really try to follow him. Since you are human, you cannot obey God perfectly at all times. Sometimes you will sin and mess up, and God knows that. What he’s really looking for is your desire to please and obey him. That is how God, others, and you know that you belong to God.

We are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:9
