A High Price

Don’t women have the final say about what happens to their bodies? Shouldn’t they decide whether or not to have an abortion?

God’s Response

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Abortion is a hot issue in our society. In certain extreme cases, it is not always clear what to do. However, the idea that women should have the final say about their own bodies assumes that they are their own ultimate authority. The laws of our country have the final say regarding what is a crime and what is not, and God’s laws have the final say as to how we live as Christians. As a believer, your body is not your own; you are to glorify God with it. You can do that by having enough control over your body to remain pure from sexual sin. Failing that, and if pregnancy occurs, then you are to glorify God by allowing that child to live. Do not be like evil King Ahaz, who sacrificed his children. Do not sacrifice your child for your own convenience.
