Temptation

Temptation

Why do I give in to temptation?

God’s Response

One day when Samson was in Timnah, he noticed a certain Philistine woman. Judges 14:1

Anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:28

Late one afternoon David . . . went for a stroll on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath. He sent someone to find out who she was. 2 Samuel 11:2-3

Temptation often begins with the eyes, and travels quickly to the heart. What you do immediately after you notice something tempting will affect your thoughts and actions for a long time. If you let your eyes linger where they shouldn’t be looking, your mind will start finding ways to justify your gaze, and your heart will start tugging you in that direction. The first step in avoiding temptation is to take your eyes off that which is tempting.

God’s Challenge

I discovered that a seductive woman is more bitter than death. Her passion is a trap, and her soft hands will bind you. Those who please God will escape from her, but sinners will be caught in her snare. Ecclesiastes 7:26
