Disrespect

Disrespect

In what ways do people show disrespect to God?

God’s Response

Do not misuse the name of the LORD your God. Exodus 20:7

Glory and honor to God forever and ever. He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. 1 Timothy 1:17

I looked again, and I heard the singing of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and the living beings and the elders. And they sang in a mighty chorus: “The Lamb is worthy—the Lamb who was killed. He is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” Revelation 5:11-12

Do not treat my holy name as common and ordinary. Leviticus 22:32

Too often we treat God as ordinary, forgetting that he is completely holy. We must be extremely careful to treat God with the reverence he deserves. Thinking of him as “Santa Claus” or “The Old Man Upstairs” is disrespectful, as is using his name to swear or spice up your language. Treating God as ordinary shows that you do not understand who God is or what he can do. Respect for God means that you show reverence for his name. Anyone who can design and build a magnificent cathedral would be respected. Even more, we should respect the One who designed and created the universe.

God’s Promise

The LORD watches over those who fear him. Psalm 33:18
