Why do tough times come? What value do they have in my life?

God’s Response

Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the LORD tests the heart. Proverbs 17:3

Remove the dross from silver, and the sterling will be ready for the silversmith. Proverbs 25:4

He will sit and judge like a refiner of silver, watching closely as the dross is burned away. Malachi 3:3

As precious metals are refined by fire, so your life, which is precious to God, is refined and purified in the fire of adversity. It is only through refining that the impurities are removed. When the liquid metal is completely purified, the refiner’s image appears on its surface. Likewise, through suffering, God’s image will appear more and more clearly in you.

God’s Promise

I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure, just as gold and silver are refined and purified by fire. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, “These are my people,” and they will say, “The LORD is our God.” Zechariah 13:9
