Leaders
Leaders
What if the leaders of my country leave something to be desired? How do I respond?
God’s Response
For the Lord’s sake, accept all authority—the king as head of state, and the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish all who do wrong and to honor those who do right. 1 Peter 2:13-14
Obey the government, for God is the one who put it there. All governments have been placed in power by God. So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow. Romans 13:1-2
We must be responsible citizens as well as responsible Christians. Every government is in power because God allows it to be. Therefore, you should work hard to obey the laws of the land. The Bible is also clear that you should never violate God’s moral standards. This means that you should never allow the government to force you to disobey God. You should not disobey the government for personal reasons, but only for moral reasons when God’s laws are violated. Civil disobedience comes with a price, so if you are compelled to disobey, you must be courageous enough to accept the consequences.
God’s Promise
If you keep looking steadily into God’s perfect law—the law that sets you free—and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:25
