Discontentment

How do we lose our desire to obey God?

God’s Response

The people soon began to complain. . . . Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “How long will this wicked nation complain about me?” Numbers 11:1; 14:26-27

We must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. Hebrews 2:1

Always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20

At first the people of Israel did “everything as the Lord commanded.” They had a real desire to obey God. How quickly that changed! Before long they were complaining and whining. We lose our desire to obey God when we start focusing on the little things that bother us and forget the greater blessings God sends. We think about what we don’t have and stop appreciating all we do have. Are you appreciating all God has done for you with the same passion you once did? If not, take an inventory of your attitudes and start thanking God for each blessing.

God’s Promise

I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new, obedient heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so you will obey my laws and do whatever I command. Ezekiel 36:25-27
