Character

Why does character matter?

God’s Response

My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart, for they will give you a long and satisfying life. Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you! Wear them like a necklace; write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will gain a good reputation. Proverbs 3:1-4

When the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23

You can fool people for a while by your words and actions, but who you are on the inside will ultimately show itself on the outside. Your words and actions will reflect your heart. Character is so important because it is a direct reflection of your heart. For example, committing to worship shows that God comes first in your heart. Committing yourself to kindness shows a commitment to serving others. What is your heart committed to? If you aren’t sure, then others probably aren’t either.

God’s Challenge

Even children are known by the way they act, whether their conduct is pure and right. Proverbs 20:11
