Do I have to earn God’s approval?
God’s Response
God has shown us a different way of being right in his sight—not by obeying the law but by the way promised in the Scriptures long ago. We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done. Romans 3:21-22
If they are saved by God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s wonderful kindness would not be what it really is—free and undeserved. Romans 11:6
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:9
Approval from God comes when you ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and then accept him as Lord of your life. That is all! You simply need to believe that what God says in the Bible is true. You don’t have to impress him first by accomplishing a list of good deeds. No matter how good you are, you do not win God’s approval until your sins are forgiven. When he forgives your sins, he wipes them away as if you had never sinned—and no wonder he approves of you then!
God’s Promise
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
