Publicize Delegated Authority

Moses put Aaron and Hur in charge while he was gone. He also made the critically important step of announcing this to the regional managers. It’s not enough to give someone the responsibility of “running the place while I’m gone.” There needs to be clear communication to the entire organization that the baton has been passed.

Leaving someone in charge without making a public acknowledgment is like sending someone out to police the streets in regular clothes, with no badge, in an unmarked car.

People shouldn’t simply have authority bestowed on them. They should earn it, but your absence creates a void that must be filled by someone who is clearly in charge.

Announcing someone to represent your authority doesn’t give them anything except an opportunity to prove themselves worthy of the appointment.

Your people should never have to say, “Hey, who’s in charge here, anyway?”
