Provide Clear Instructions

Provide Clear Instructions

Then God said, “Let there be light.” Genesis 1:3

I once managed a team that handled telephone calls from all over the United States and Canada. Since our offices were in California and many customers were on the East Coast, we needed at least one person in the office by 6:00 a.m. to answer calls.

I assumed that my staff would decide for themselves who would take the early shift each day, but I was wrong. There were quite a few mornings when calls went unanswered because no one was in the office to take them.

I called the team together, read Genesis 1:3, and apologized for not stating my desires in clear and concise terms.

“From now on,” I told them, “let there be light. I have not been clear enough in stating my expectations, so here they are.” After that, I allowed the team to write a schedule, but I required them to run it by me and held them accountable to it, which they appreciated.

God provides clear and concise instructions. We should do that too.
