Practice Mutuality With Your Staff

When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. Romans 4:4

At my first real job, the owner delivered paychecks by holding them tightly in his hand until the employee said, “Thank you.”

When I got up the nerve to ask why he did this, his answer was, “I want to know that you’re grateful for the opportunity to work here.”

He believed he was doing us all a favor by allowing us to work for him, but I don’t think he ever considered the flip side.

We made it possible for him to operate a business.

God’s provision is a gift, based on faith, for which we should be grateful.

Wages are part of a mutually beneficial contract between a worker and an employer. Both should have an equal stake and reward in the relationship.
