Play Your Own Game

I replied, “There is no truth in any part of your story. You are making up the whole thing.” They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination. Nehemiah 6:8-9

The winning coach was interviewed after a game.

“Your guys were way behind at the half. What did you say in the locker room that turned them around?”

“I reminded them that we had a game plan and that we should stop allowing the other guys to set the pace. We came out and played our game, and we won.”

It is tempting to let the other team set your agenda. Sometimes you unintentionally react to something they’re doing, take your eyes off the road, and run into a ditch.

Nehemiah didn’t blindly ignore the bad publicity his project was receiving, but neither did he let it change his plans. He focused on getting the wall built, and nothing got in his way.

The next time you’re tempted to react, think about Nehemiah and stay the course.
