Pay Attention To The Future

Pay Attention to the Future

I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen. Exodus 33:22-23

This dialogue between Moses and Yahweh shows us another of God’s leadership attributes:

God’s focus is always on the future.

Reggie McNeal tells it this way: “After all these years of talking to bushes, clouds and pillars of fire, Moses asks God if he can see his face. God says that wouldn’t be such a good idea, but he compromises by letting Moses see his back, after he’s passed by. . . .

Perhaps the reason we only see God’s back is that he is always facing where we haven’t been. He is always leading. Always out front. Never looking back.”a

Learn from the past.

Live in the present.

Pay attention to the future—because that’s where God is.
