Pay Attention To The Future

I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen. Exodus 33:22-23

This dialogue between Moses and Yahweh shows us another of God’s leadership attributes:

God’s focus is always on the future.

Reggie McNeal tells it this way: “After all these years of talking to bushes, clouds and pillars of fire, Moses asks God if he can see his face. God says that wouldn’t be such a good idea, but he compromises by letting Moses see his back, after he’s passed by. . . .

Perhaps the reason we only see God’s back is that he is always facing where we haven’t been. He is always leading. Always out front. Never looking back.”^a

Learn from the past.

Live in the present.

Pay attention to the future—because that’s where God is.
