Offer A Plan

The people were all shouting, some one thing and some another. Everything was in confusion. In fact, most of them didn’t even know why they were there. Acts 19:32

The people of Ephesus were rioting, and they didn’t even know why.

A silversmith named Demetrius had taken issue with Paul for preaching that there was only one true God. Demetrius sold handmade silver gods. He provoked a group of fellow craftsmen, whose anger boiled at the thought of losing their business to this new “one God” idea.

Their passion spilled into the streets, and as Luke writes, “soon the whole city was filled with confusion” (Acts 19:29).

The same scenario occurs today. It seldom manifests as a riot, but people will rally behind one idea or another despite knowing little about it. We play “follow the leader,” but we don’t know where the leader is going.

Here’s the good news: Confused people are eager to follow someone with a plan.

Are you standing in the midst of a confused crowd? Try raising a banner that says, “Follow me—I have a plan.” You’ll be amazed at what happens.
