Keep Your Promises

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Hebrews 10:23

God does what he says he will do.

This commitment to commitment is a very attractive leadership trait. The degree to which you follow through on your promises will have a profound effect on your success as a leader.

Consider the longevity of a little book named Horton Hatches the Egg, which was written in 1940 by Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel. It’s the story of an elephant who is tricked into sitting on the egg of an irresponsible bird. The bird disappears, but Horton refuses to give up his post on the nest because

“I meant what I said and I said what I meant, an elephant’s faithful, 100 percent.”

Horton remains a favorite of children and parents because the idea of keeping one’s promises appeals to our deepest longings. We want to trust people, and we’ll cling to anyone who is worthy of our hope.
