Observe The Golden Rule

Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. Matthew 7:12

We call it the Golden Rule.

The concept of treating others as we wish to be treated is found in nearly every religion, from Native American spirituality to Zoroastrianism. Seneca, Plato, and Socrates taught their versions of it. Even those without any religious affiliation ascribe to “the ethics of reciprocity.”

It is simple, elegant, straightforward—and easily ignored or taken for granted.

The simplicity of the Golden Rule can lull us into a false sense that we are doing okay. Our minds automatically agree with the words, but are we living up to the standard Jesus described on the Mount of Olives?

Will you accept a twenty-four-hour challenge?

Between now and this time tomorrow, concentrate on the essence of this idea. Look for ways in which you may be treating someone in a manner that’s inconsistent with your desire to live by the Golden Rule.

Think deeply about your leadership style. Do you really treat everyone as you would like to be treated?
